The South Tampa Chamber hosted a ribbon-cutting for recently opened eatery specializing in fresh and funky.
TAMPA, FL — Although the newest Canopy Road Cafe has been open since June 7, the South Tampa Chamber of Commerce officially welcomed the new Gandy Boulevard eatery Wednesday with a ribbon-cutting and grand opening ceremony.
The new Canopy Road Cafe at 4308 W. Gandy Blvd., is the fourth eatery for Brad Buckenheimer and David Raney who opened the first Canopy Road Cafe in Tallahassee in 2007, shortly after graduating from Florida State University. They also have restaurants in Brandon and Jacksonville.
Canopy Road Cafe specializes in traditional breakfast and lunch fare with some fresh, funky and innovative twists.
The best part is residents can get breakfast seven days a week from 6:30 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. including crowd pleasers like Crab Cake Benedict — two tender crab cakes atop a split English muffin topped two basted eggs and hollandaise sauce; Rocky Road Pancakes made with rich chocolate pancake batter filled with chocolate chips and slivered almonds, then topped with marshmallow sauce; Fruity Pebbles Waffles, Belgian waffle batter filled with Fruity Pebbles cereal, topped with raspberry and vanilla glaze and garnished with a dollop of cream cheese icing; Fat Elvis Pancakes with peanut butter chips, banana and chopped bacon with peanut butter drizzle; Cap'N Crunch French Toast battered and rolled in Crunch Berries cereal, then grill golden brown and topped with fresh strawberries, blueberries, bananas and vanilla glaze.
Lunchtime favorites include fried green tomatoes; the Strip District Special with shredded sirloin steak smothered in provolone cheese, topped with fresh tomatoes, coleslaw and French fries stuffed inside grilled sourdough bread; and the Cabo BLT with crisp bacon strips, mixed greens, sliced tomato, garlic aioli and fresh sliced avocado on toasted ciabatta bread.
For those with dietary restrictions, Canopy Road Cafe also offers gluten-free, dairy-free, vegan and vegetarian selections.
